Join nationally recognized shark tooth and shelling expert Dr. Ashley Oliphant for an awesome interactive children’s workshop that teaches participants how to hunt, where to hunt, and identify species. The session will include a show-and-tell of shark, whale, and dinosaur fossils, along with many species of seashells. The group will learn about how fossils are formed and explore what it means to be a responsible beachcomber who protects wildlife and preserves the natural environment. The hour will conclude with a 10-minute fossil dig, and attendees will get to keep the seashells and shark teeth that they find. Afterward, Dr. Oliphant will sign her book “Shark Tooth Hunting on the Carolina Coast,” take questions from the group, and open her pop-up fossil shop, which includes low-cost (but still super cool) fossils from all over the country.
Children ages 5-11 accompanied by an adult. Register online or call 981-5888, starting July 13. Limit 30.
