Event Details

Attention South Carolina and African American history buffs, genealogy lovers, and music aficionados: visit the library to see John Fowler, a South Carolina Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage recipient, present Trotting Sally, one of South Carolina's famous and most-elusive turn-of-the-century African Americans. John weaves the history and folklore of the life of George Mullins, also known as Trotting Sally, who was an infamous street musician, and a man who was born into slavery and built a new life as a free man. John mixes his lecture with rare visual imagery, storytelling, and 19th century music to tell a tale as captivating as Mullins' life.

Registration is highly suggested, but walk-ins are welcome. Call 803-981-5825 to register, or register online, starting July 13.
